Fundraising for Storead: Stitching Dreams into Reality
When you think about empowerment, what comes to mind? For us—a group of students in Chennai—it’s not about giving handouts, but about giving women the tools to shape their own future. That’s exactly what our project, Fundraising for Storead, is all about.
The Heart of the Project: Better World Shelter
Nestled in the heart of Chennai is the Better World Shelter, a safe haven for women with disabilities. It’s not just a place to live; it’s a place where these women rebuild their lives with dignity and purpose. Here, they receive housing, skills training, and—most importantly—hope.
Two years ago, Saree Stories sparked something beautiful by collaborating with Better World Shelter to start a small business called Storead. Storead is more than just a business; it’s a movement. It gives these women the chance to create and sell stunning accessories and apparel, each piece carrying with it their creativity, resilience, and spirit.
Why Storead Matters
Storead has grown into a thriving enterprise where talent and determination come alive. Every accessory and garment made is not just fabric and thread—it’s a story. A story of a woman who decided not to be defined by her disability but by her ability to create, to imagine, and to thrive.
When you support Storead, you’re not just buying a product. You’re investing in independence. You’re saying, “I believe in your talent, I believe in your future.”
The Next Step: A High-Tech Sewing Machine
As Storead grows, so do the dreams of the women behind it. But to truly take things to the next level, they need something crucial: a multi-needle embroidery machine.
This isn’t just any piece of equipment—it’s the key to scaling up their business. With it, they’ll be able to:
Create more diverse, intricate, and professional-quality designs.
Increase productivity and meet larger orders.
Secure a reliable source of income for themselves.
Welcome more women into the business, giving them both training and employment opportunities.
The price tag? ₹3.3 lakh.
The impact? Absolutely priceless.
Why We Stepped In
That’s where we come in. As a team of students, we wanted to do more than just stand on the sidelines and applaud their work. We wanted to be part of their journey. So, we decided to raise funds for this high-tech sewing machine—because sometimes the right tool can completely change the trajectory of someone’s life.
This initiative isn’t just about a machine. It’s about amplifying voices that often go unheard. It’s about giving women the independence to support themselves, to express their creativity, and to contribute to society in meaningful ways.
How You Can Help
Here’s the best part: you can be a part of this too. Every contribution, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to reaching our goal. Together, we can make sure that Storead has the resources it needs to flourish.

Final Thoughts
At its core, Fundraising for Storead is more than just a project. It’s a celebration of resilience, creativity, and the power of community. When we stitch together our efforts—students, donors, supporters, and the women at Better World Shelter—we’re creating something much bigger than fabric or accessories.
We’re creating opportunity.
We’re creating independence.
We’re creating a brighter, more inclusive future.
So, let’s stitch these dreams into reality—together.
